This time of crisis can generate a lot of stress and anxiety for people. So, it’s more important than ever that we look after our mental health.
WHO released a mental health guide for people who are isolating – https://www.who.int/…/cor…/mental-health-considerations.pdf…
Top tips that our supporters have shared include:
#1 – Minimize watching, reading or listening to news about COVID-19 that causes you to feel anxious or distressed.
#2 – Try to maintain a healthy diet. There are loads of great recipes online on https://pinchofnom.com/ or https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/category/healthy. Planning your shopping list helps people who are shopping for you and it also helps you to plan healthy meals for the week.
#3 – Our physical health and mental health are closely linked so try to create a routine that includes exercise. Outdoor exercise is best for your mental wellbeing, from walking and cycling to outdoor yoga. Indoors, there are tons of free online routines. Try https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQYBFhPbslw or https://www.youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1
#4 – A lot of time alone or with little to do can lead to self-reflection or losing optimism in the future. Try to do things each day that are fun. Listening to music, dancing around the kitchen, playing an online game, or challenging yourself with a new recipe or new language.
#5 – Stay connected with friends and family. If you’re struggling, talk about how you’re feeling with someone trusted. Try to minimise virtual contact with people who zap your energy or are overly negative. Positivity feeds positivity.
There’s no doubt that this is a challenging time but remember that it won’t last forever. Adapt your routine for today but keep focused on the future to stay positive.
